The Glebe Street Fair is on again from 10 am on Sunday 20st November, 2011 with the theme of the Beat. This year’s fair will be focused on the beat of the community looking a different dance styles that are synonymous with the village, music with a beat and street entertainment exploring different interpretations of the beat.
“Each year we try to bring a different feel to the fair to provide families with a fun and entertaining day out.” Glebe Street Fair Coordinator, Juliet Scrine said. This year we went with the theme of the beat as it opens the fair up for a diverse interpretation of what the beat means to people. The heart beat of a community providing access for all areas of the Glebe and surrounds to celebrate what it means to live in Glebe while also showcasing an amazing array of food, crafts and unique products from all over Australia”
“This year the fair will run till 7 pm providing visitors with plenty of opportunities to try the foods from local restaurants and stallholders. The school yard will be opened up for a children’s stage, face painting and craft activities, food stallholders and local artists with Foleys Park being used as a chill out zone with relaxation therapies and healthy lifestyle solutions on display
Glebe Point Road will be closed to traffic from Broadway to Bridge Road from 2 am on 21 November until 11 pm.

Jazz at the Library in 2009 was a fantastic line up of local musicians enjoying the afternoon music sessions in Glebe Library park. We got some young local talent -'Gypsy's of Pangea', three young men (under the age of 16) who won Battle of the Bands, came and gave us some New Age funk, with the yougest, Seb, playing didgeridoo, piano and singing. Definately one multi-talented muso!
Local Honky Tonk Jazz musician Bridie King and the Boogie Queens were sublime, with wonderful renditions of some old New Orlean numbers that got the crowd up dancing.
The last band was local artist and Jazz Muso Barry Canham and the Quartet. Entertaining and delightful they went on to play at the opening night of the Glebe Art Show.
About 100 people attended the three Saturday afternoons. |

The annual second book sale was held on Saturday 5 June at Benledi. It was a fantastic day with volunteers from the Glebe Chamber and community who helped make this day a success. $2600 was raised on the day with more books donated than ever before. Considering the week leading up to the book sale was with torrential rain we never expected the sun to shine through. $1000 is being donated to the Glebe Art Show. $300 to the Community Development Project for NAIDOC week and the rest to be decided upon. I would like to thank Ruth Fowler, Ken ..., Kate... Allison Chiew, Rhonda .... Sofi Lidgren, John Fischer, Bruce Robertson, Spiro Christodoulous, Yanis Kalnins, Sophie Moore, Anna Moore, Margaret Whittaker, Roelof Smidt, Elizabeth Daly and the ever mover and shaker Gay Kalnins. |

The Glebe Art Show has a long standing tradition of bringing together artists who live or work in Glebe and giving them the attention they deserve. And not only that, but they have a formidable reputation of bringing some well-known artists and some not so well-known together to hang on the walls, creating a flowing display of art work through Benledi and the Glebe Library. Robyn Lawrence, the Co-ordinator, has watched the Art Show evolve into more and more works being displayed each year.
This year the Glebe Art Show will have its opening night on Friday 17 September with a Jazz Band and launched with an officialdom in charge of presenting the prizes. Long standing Chamber members Dr David Nuygen, The Toxteth Hotel, Ray White, Glebe Liquor, The Glebe Art Show and of course The Glebe Chamber of Commerce have donated the prizes. If you would like to enter pick up an entry form at the beginning of September from the Glebe Library. If you have entered work before an entry form will be mailed to you.

What a success. Opening night at North Sullivan’s Photo Studio was one of the biggest Glebe community events since they wanted to put an expressway through Glebe. Over 300 people came to celebrate one of Sydney’s largest ever photographic portraiture exhibition of people from Glebe displayed up and around Glebe as part of our 150th year as a suburb celebrations. A BIG thank you to our sponsors HP, Look Print, Hasselblad, Image Products, De Wintern, YHA Glebe, Glebe Liquor and Broadway Shopping Centre. And a BIGGER thank you to the photographers, Tom Psomotragos and North Sullivan, for the dedicated hours they put in to get this project happening. We raised $321.60 for Glebe Youth Services on the night through the sale of beverages. The Grand Outdoor Gallery – Glebes Outdoor Gallery – 150 Locals has been a resounding success in the community with much positive praise. Col Stokes from Glebe Youth Services said ‘this is the first time in many years that the Glebe Community has all come together at one time’. The exhibition was up for a 6 week period with photos being displayed on the Peter Forsyth Auditorium walls, Glebe Public School fence, Walter Burley Griffin walkway, residential balconies, and in cafes and bookstores.
